ATSOURCE INFINITY AWARDED NATURE-BASED PROJECT OF THE YEAR

The AtSource Infinity Agroforestry project in Pará, Brazil has been awarded Nature-Based Project of the year at the Business Green Leaders Awards.

Olam Food Ingredients Cocoa team works in close partnership with The Nature Conservancy, Mondelēz International, Partnerships for Forests, and Instituto Humanize. This consortium is tackling deforestation and helping restore land in Pará, Brazil by promoting cocoa agroforestry as a more profitable alternative to small scale cattle farming. Farmers are provided with the tools and support they need to make the transition. With more than 250 smallholders signing a zero deforestation agreement to bring 14,000 hectares of land under sustainable management, and with the approval of £210,000 worth of farmer credit applications, the project has led to real results, which was recognised by the Business Green Leaders Awards.

‘In one of our most competitive categories, Olam Food Ingredients' ambitious programme to work closely with smallholders to tackle deforestation in the cocoa supply chain is delivering tangible results on the ground while providing a sustainable supply chain management template for other businesses to follow’ the jury comments on the winning project.

Lessons learned in Pará will be used to work with more farmers towards a truly sustainable cocoa supply chain for both people and the planet. Read more about the project here
